Layered Up Paper Doll

For this edition of the Paper Doll Project, I had the privilege of working with the fabulous, modelesque Joanne of Fabulously Average.  We bonded over our love of America's Next Top Model and also the vest we both own, the Old Navy surplus vest she styled for me today.

Vest: Old Navy; Tank Top and Bracelet: Target; Cardigan: Wet Seal; Skirt: Express; Belt: Walmart; Shoes: Kohl's; Necklace: gift

I love how the outfit turned out!  I was a little skeptical at first as to how all the pieces would come together, but I ended up very impressed with Joanne's eye for layering and color combinations.  The cool thing is, it's something I never would've thought to put together either.

Turns out I wasn't the only one who liked the outfit.  I was checking out this local boutique that sells designer brands I can't afford (although I've heard great things about Tory Burch flats and was tempted for a moment), and one of the women who works there was like, "Look at how cute you look!  Right out of a fashion magazine!"

Be sure to check out how I styled Joanne's black and white striped skirt and also see all the other Paper Doll Project participants that will be listed on Miss Vinyl Ahoy.

Third Edition of the Paper Doll Project

This is the third time I'm participating in the Paper Doll Project. I love it because it's a great way to get to know other bloggers and flex our styling muscles on another girl's closet. This time I got to work with the super sweet Amy of Stylish Year.

I gave Amy two new pieces of mine to choose from, and she opted for my bright orange Target dress.  Amy's a lover of color (and a fellow lover of the color yellow!), so she picked out some bright little pops of color to complete the look, including my beloved Michael Kors bag.

Dress: Target; Cardigan: Wet Seal; Belt: ribbon from maxi dress I made; Shoes: New York & Company; Bracelets: Mexicali Blues; Bag: TJ Maxx

I also geekily noticed that Amy had unknowingly dressed me to match Hanson's Middle of Nowhere CD cover.  I love it!

Can't wait to see how her outfit turned out!

A Paper Doll Once Again

The last Paper Doll Project was so much fun that I had to sign up again. This time, I was paired with the lovely and fabulous fellow mommy, Tyesha from Diary of a Chic Mommy. Looking through Tyesha's outfit posts, I loved her style, and I was excited to work with her.

I chose my newly purchased Rodarte for Target dress because I wasn't sure how to make it work appropriate and not look like I'm going to a wedding or funeral or bedroom or something with the black lace pattern (wide range of possibilities there, eh?).

Here's how she styled me!

Dress: Rodarte for Target; Cardigan: Gap; Belt: from a Kohl's shirt; Necklace: gift; Bracelet and Boots: Target

I really like how the look is basically all black and gold/tan with a pop of color. Tyesha left it up to me whether I wanted to wear heels or boots, so I went with boots since it's always chilly in the office and since the dress is pretty short for work.

She suggested either black or gold accessories, so I chose a gold bracelet and a gold layered locket necklace that was given to me by my in-laws when Bridget was born. Actually worked out perfectly since they're in town visiting right now.  As for the bracelet, I thought this gold one was cool because it kind of looks like zippers.  I thought maybe it would add a little bit of edge to the ensemble.

Be sure to head on over to Diary of a Chic Mommy to see how I styled Tyesha, also in a Target dress, and check out the rest of the Paper Doll Project participants by clicking on the badge.

Me as a Paper Doll

I was pretty excited when I heard about Suze's Paper Doll Project, and I signed up right away.  Giving outfit suggestions and shopping with specific missions in mind are two things I enjoy doing, so this sounded like it would be right up my alley.  Not to mention how much I loved dolls growing up, including paper dolls.

The item of clothing I wanted my outfit to be based around was my yellow floral cardigan from Old Navy.  Hope was in charge of styling me, and I really like what she came up with!  Although I love yellow and blue together (they were my wedding colors), I wouldn't have thought to put this cardigan with blue items since there's not actually any blue in the pattern.  I'll take any excuse to put on my fun new blue heels, so I was all for it.  The first time I wore this cardigan, I was concerned it was too boxy, which made the belt a good add, too.

Cardigan: Old Navy; Cami: NY & Co; Skirt: NY & Co; Tights: We Love Colors; Shoes: (shoo) Necklace: Old Navy; Belt: Luci Boutique
Don't mind my hair.  I was going for the air-dried wavy look, which doesn't work with my hair.  It's either straight or straighter unless I take a curling iron to it.  Don't worry, I brushed it right after I took this picture.  Also, the lighting is a little weird, but I'll pretend I meant it as an effect...

Be sure to head on over to Hope and the Dress Code to see how I styled Hope and her fabulous polka dot pencil skirt!  I'm a little nervous to see how I did, but luckily, she's one of those people who looks great in everything.
