America's Next Top Model Cycle 16 Episode 11 Recap

I said "episode 10" in the recap, so I'm not really sure what episode number we're on now, but here we go!

Celebrities Are People Too

The first and only time I was in New York City was to see Hanson (shocker) perform at Carnegie Hall in 2000.  After the show, my friends and I somehow found our way to the hotel at which the guys were staying.  We watched as Zac pulled up in a taxi and paid the taxi driver upon getting out.  For some reason, this was so cool to see.  He's a normal guy--he carries cash and pays cab drivers!  Weird!  Then, Taylor came along, carrying his infant son on his shoulders, and I thought he was a terrible father.  Haha.

Anyway, that's when I realized how fun it is seeing celebrities just being normal people.  It's just so surreal!  They seem like these untouchable beings, but they go to the grocery store, pay for cabs, take care of their children, etc.  This thought was sparked once again when I saw these pictures of Paul Bettany:

First, let me say, that I'm kind of obsessed with this man, and he would be at the top of my list (behind Isaac Hanson) if I got to have a "list."  You know, the list...  I even watched this horribly long movie he was in with Nicole Kidman called Dogville, in which he did a mumbled American accent that I could barely understand.  I mean, I get that it's an artsy film, but it was long, somewhat disturbing in the end, and the accent was bad.

ANYWAY, not only is he being normal in these photos and going on a walk with his kids (and holding his son's hand, awww), but he has an Australian Shepherd!  I have an Australian Shepherd!  Wow, I'm a dork.  Sigh, Jennifer Connelly is a lucky woman.

So that this post would have more of a point than just me ogling Paul Bettany, here are some other pics of celebs being normal folk just like the rest of us.

Grocery shopping with your child is not easy!  But of course, Halle Berry looks stunning doing it.

Rihanna rides a rollercoaster.  Fun!

Shia LaBeouf is holding a shopping bag, and he has keys.  Weird!  Yet normal!

Jessica Alba pumps her own gas.  Neat!

There's a popular family story about my in-laws riding a tandem bike and my MIL enjoying the view while FIL did all the work.  That's what I imagine is happening here with Jessica Simpson, hehe.

Blueberry Waffle Breakfast Sandwich

One thing that always excites me is seeing and then trying new (junk) food. The trying rarely turns out to be as satisfying since I hype it up so much in my head, but it's still fun.

When I saw Dunkin' Donuts commercial for their new blueberry waffle breakfast sandwich, I thought "oh em gee, I MUST HAVE IT!" I'm not a huge sausage fan, as I've mentioned during my last sausage junk food eating endeavor, but this looks like another one of those things that I just want to try to say I did. I mean, look at it!

Source: Dunkin' Donuts

When I was grabbing this image, I accidentally scrolled down to the nutritional information. Big mistake!

Luckily, I will probably not try this interesting combination of delightful breakfast foods anytime soon since there are so few Dunkin' Donuts in the area. Unlike in New England, where they're EVERYWHERE!!!!!! Seriously, they're more prevalent than McDonald's. It certainly shocked this Midwesterner the first time I was there.

Anyway, if anyone is near a Dunkin and orders this, lemme know how it is! I'd be very curious to know if it's any good and worth a short detour one of these days.

Experimenting with the White Out Trend

The white out trend is probably not something I would've tried on my own. But, when the Bloggers Do It Better challenge came up, I figured I might as well give it a shot. It turns out, I kind of liked some of the looks I came up with. I was surprised to find out how much white I had to work with in my closet.

Here are four different white outfits I came up with:

Winter White (or unseasonably cold spring...)

Sequin T-shirt: Express; Cardigan: Old Navy; Skirt and Boots: Target; Glasses: Hanson.net

Easy Breezy

Top: Old Navy; Skirt: Target; Shoes: Payless

Biz Casz

Top: New York & Company; Skirt: Target; Belt/Sash: From a Kohl's shirt; Shoes: Payless

Creamy Lace

Top: Kohl's; Skirt and Shoes: Target

Hmm, I'm starting to think I need to branch out and start shopping at more places...

Solid Foods

Taken Saturday morning--I just thought it was cute how she was holding her burp cloth.

When we went in for Bridget's 4-month appointment, our pediatrician recommended we wait until she's 5 months old to start her on solids.  Well, one week shy is close enough, right?  Hubs got a little excited after talking to some friends about their experiences and went and bought some baby oatmeal.

We put 1 tablespoon of oatmeal in her 5 ounce bottle Sunday evening.  It took her probably twice as long to finish the bottle, and she spit it out several times when the nipple became clogged with oatmeal.  After I shook the bottle a little, she would continue drinking.  It seemed to do the trick because she slept from 7:00 until 5:15.

Optimistically, we tried again tonight.  She would suck at the bottle but wasn't actually taking any food in and started to get frustrated.  Hubs made the hole slightly bigger, but she still wasn't having it.  Finally, we went back to just formula, and she gobbled that down.

Now, I'm not sure what to think.  Maybe tomorrow, we should try giving the oatmeal to her with a spoon and see how that goes.

So moms, what have your experiences been like when you first introduced solids to your kiddos?

Still Not Quite Warm Yet

Wow, I'm not on my game today. This is my third time publishing this because I keep forgetting to add things like the Inspiration Monday button and the actually inspiration picture. Duh, losing (wait, do people still quote Charlie Sheen?).

And here's my interpretation:

Gray Cami: Old Navy; Black Cami: Kohl's; Cardigan: Kohl's??; Jeans: Maurices; Shoes: LL Bean; Hat: Target; Sunglasses: Payless

These are the same jeans that I wore for the Gwen Stefani challenge, and they are neither high-waisted nor wide leg. But, they were the right color, so I went with it. As for the fedora, well, I just liked it with the outfit again.

It was another windy and a little chilly day on Saturday when I wore this, which is why I'm holding my hat in the above picture. I took the baby and pup on a walk and let the dog run around this field, where everyone brings their dogs, while I took a few pictures. Here's what I actually wore on the walk:

Jacket: Target; Scarf: Overstock

Bridget was really tired, so she was none too pleased about this walk. Whenever I stopped pushing the stroller, she started crying. So I would quickly take ten frames, run back and rock the stroller, then take hurry and take another ten frames. After three times of that, I had to give up and head back. And she got a nap right when we got home.

This walk was spurred by the decent weather we were having and also my frustration with Bridget's dress I was sewing. I was so close to being done, so once I sewed the bottom strip of fabric on backwards, I had to take a break.

Once Bridget was asleep, though, as was the hubs and the pooch, I was able to turn on the Royal Wedding and finish up the dress.

Having Fun with My New Sewing Machine

Things I have sewn in the past include shorts that were a little too tight in the booty, a really cute shift dress, pajama pants that more closely resembled clown pants, random scrunchis, and Barbie clothes.  Having bought my sewing machine, I was excited to pick up some patterns.  Here are the two I bought at Walmart with their respective fabrics.

There's a reason the infant pattern does not say Easy on it like the women's pattern does...because it wasn't.  It wasn't terrible, but it was definitely the most complicated thing I've ever sewn, which admittedly, isn't saying much.  Making the ties was a little frustrating, but everything actually went pretty well until I sewed the bottom contrasting fabric on...backwards.  Whoops.  I skipped the appliques and instead made a rosette from a tutorial from The Sisters 4.

I haven't done the topstitching yet because I had to Google was topstitching was, so I'll do that later.  The dress is way too big for Bridget right now anyway, so hopefully she'll grow into it once it gets hot out!

Next up, I take on the mommy sized dress.
