Keep or Donate: The Totals

Thanks to everyone who voted and gave me feedback throughout the challenge! I found it very fun and enlightening to get honest opinions on what works and what doesn't by checking the numbers on the polls each day.

Out of 50 Sweaters, I:
  • Got rid of 18
  • Kept 30
  • Stored 2 in the basement for future maternity wear
Let me tell you, there is quite a bit more room in my closet now where all those big bulky sweaters used to be. I've also identified wardrobe holes that I would like to fill at some point:
  • Cozy and casual boyfriend cardigan that's not super bulky and unflattering
  • Red 3/4- or long-sleeve cardigan
  • Sweater dress that's long enough and not too clingy
  • Vest with a deep V
  • Something mint in color (maybe not a sweater)
  • ...More yellow?
You saw my new yellow Uniqlo sweater in my recent shopping post, so to close out all the sweater talk, here's the only one you haven't seen yet in my collection - a birthday present from my in-laws:

Sweater: New York & Company (gift); Scarf: L.L.Bean (gift); Blazer and Cami: New York & Company;
Jeans: Lee via Kohl's; Booties: Mr. Shoe

Now hopefully it'll get warm so that I don't have to wear a sweater for awhile. Or not.

Big Girl Bed - How the First Week Went

After I gave her pigtails, she wanted me to give her stuffed animals ponytails, too, and take pictures with them.

We've reached another milestone in our household.

Last Saturday evening (a week and a half ago now), we put Bridget in her crib for a time out*, and a couple minutes later, she walked on out of her bedroom with a pleasant look on her face like nothing had happened. I double-checked with my husband that he actually put her in her crib, which he had. At that moment, we realized it was time for what we had been putting off - converting Bridget's crib to a toddler bed. A few minutes later when Bridget successfully climbed into and back out of her crib, our suspicions were confirmed, and hubs immediately got his tools out and went to work on the bed. Right away, Bridget was a fan. She loved the fact that she could easily climb in and out without help. Things looked optimistic.

* That's not a recommended parenting method since "they say" the child will associate the bed with bad things instead of peaceful slumber, but it worked for us. Each kid is different, etc. etc.

The first few nights, against our better judgment, we let her climb into bed with us when she got up in the middle of the night. Halfway through the week, we started bringing her back to her own bed instead. Here's how her first week went:

Saturday night: Woke up at 4 AM and joined us in bed.
Sunday nap: Came out of her room three times before she actually went to sleep.
Sunday night: Slept in her bed all night.
Monday night: Woke up at 2 AM and joined us in bed.
Tuesday night: Woke up at 11 PM and joined us in bed.
Wednesday night: Slept in her bed all night after taking her back to bed twice in the middle of the night.
Thursday night: Slept in her bed all night without getting up.
Friday night: Woke up at least four times between 11 and 1:30, and we brought her back to her room each time. Then she slept the rest of the night in her bed.

So far, naps seem to be more difficult than bedtime with the exception of the one horrible night when she woke up probably six times. My husband and I have different recollections of what actually went down that night (I thought she got up four times; he insists it was six), but he did get up more often, so he's probably right. All things considered, though, and of course again with the exception of that one night, it's not too bad yet. Knock on wood. I will tentatively call the toddler bed conversion a success.

As far as other milestones go, we've started working a little more on potty training. I've begun using M&Ms as a reward (just one - is that too stingy?) for actually going, and Bridget's much more excited about trying to use the potty more although I think being fully out of diapers is still a while off yet.

Keep or Donate: Sweater #50 - Poncho

This is the last one, folks! Who knew I'd have exactly 50 sweaters besides the two I acquired during the challenge, and one I got rid of without putting it up for a vote because it never did fit that great, and I found a hole in it. So I guess I had 52 total. That sounds crazy. I would've guessed maybe 30 had you asked me back in January. We'll see how this last vote turns out, and then I'll tally everything up and let you know how many I got rid of with your help!

Results:

Donate. I had a feeling that's how this vote would go, which is fine. It does fit me kind of awkwardly. The color's great, though. I'll have to find a red longer-sleeved cardigan to replace it and the other one I tossed.

Last one:

gift

I'll be honest. My cold was still bugging me, and I just felt like wearing a blanket to work. Otherwise, I would've saved this poncho for a weekend look like the ones below.

Keep or Donate: Sweater #49 - Short-Sleeve Red Cardigan

Results:

Donate. I think this sweater dress was a victim of bad styling although I didn't hate this outfit. I've worn it with leggings in the past, and that worked out better. I'm not giving up on sweater dresses, though. I'm sure I'll still be on the hunt for the perfect one next fall!

Next up:

LOFT via swap

I've also worn this once before in a Christmas-themed outfit.

Weekend Fun - Tubing and a Concert

I didn't do much of anything on Saturday since my cold had pretty much wiped me out, but I did get dressed for Inspiration Monday.

Cardigan: Target; Jeans: Kut; Boots: Boston Store

Sunday, I felt a little better and ready for a day of fun. First, I met up with my friend E for tubing at Sunburst Ski Area in Kewaskum. With the weather being so nice and sunny, it was a pretty crowded day according to E, who had been there a couple times before, but we were still able to enjoy plenty of tubing on both of their tubing hills (one is steeper than the other). We also randomly ran into her sister-in-law, 5-year-old nephew, and two of their friends, so we closed out our day linking our tubes together and making trains of three of four, which helped us fly down the hill even faster. I'm looking forward to possibly taking Bridget there next year to see if she likes it. Hopefully she will because I thought the admission was a little steep at $16 a person for 2 hours or $20 a person for 3 hours.

After that, I went home and watched a couple episodes of Desperate Housewives since E mentioned it and reminded me I still hadn't finished the series, and then I got ready to go to the Pentatonix concert at the Pabst.

This was the first concert I've ever attended alone. I've sat by myself at concerts before, and I've driven to concerts alone plenty of times, but I've never done the whole experience alone. Since I didn't think I knew anyone who watched The Sing Off, the show Pentatonix was on and won last year, I decided to go for it and check out their show solo. It was a little weird at first, sitting fourth row between two people I didn't know; but once the concert began, it wasn't too bad.

Here's what I wore.

Top and Tank Top: Kohl's; Cardigan: Old Navy; Jeans: Kut; Boots: Mr. Shoe;
Bag: Christian Siriano for Payless

Tried out some teal eyeshadow for the show.

And here are some shots from the show.

There were some amusing moments throughout the show, but the best was when they invited a fan up on stage and sang "Let's Get It On" to her. The fan was a total ham, and I mean that in a good way. I don't know if she was faking her enthusiasm or not, but it made for good entertainment.

So yeah, it was a really good show. When I was telling my husband about it, even he the concert hater sounded interested as I described the part of the set where the (normally a capella) group brought out a cello that one of the members played WHILE he beatboxed. Pretty amazing.

Keep or Donate: Sweater #48 - Oatmeal Dress

Results:

Donate. This is another one of those sweaters that reminds me of a specific time whenever I wear it. I wore this cardigan over a shiny navy blue polka-dotted top the day I met Brian from the Backstreet Boys. I don't even think I have any pictures from that day (maybe my friend E does?), and all I really remember about the actual moment is that I thought Brian had very small hands. Haha. Anyway, I was OK with whichever way the vote ended up going on this one.

We're getting near the end. Only a few more to go, I think!

Here's the next one:

Keep or Donate: Sweater #47 - Red Cardigan

Results:

Donate. At the one swap I went to over a year ago, I grabbed a lot of things just for the heck of it - because they were free and because they were about my size. Since then, I've been stumped how to style the pieces I picked up, especially this sweater. I've never really been a fan of the outfits I've put together with it. Exhibit A...I guess that's the only other time I've worn it on the blog. I'm kind of relieved to let it go.

Next up:

 Boston Store I think

Bridget, my husband, and I all wore red. Good thing the three of us didn't go anywhere in public together yesterday.
