Thirty Pounds

It’s been my goal to lose weight forever. That’s not surprising considering it’s the goal for a lot of people. Since packing on nearly 50 lb during my last pregnancy and only losing about half afterward, that goal should weigh even heavier on my mind now (pun intended).

The last time I dropped a lot of weight was in 2008/2009 because I had a specific goal to work toward–my wedding! I didn’t shed as much as I originally planned, but I fit in the dress, and that’s all that matters as far as that moment in time goes.

My husband tries to be my cheerleader, but considering I generally give up on counting my Weight Watchers points after a day and a half, it’s a lot easier to be skeptical. But recently, he gave me another finish line to strive for. He made a deal with me that made a lot of sense. When I lose 30 lb, we can start trying for Baby #2.

I work a lot better with deadlines, and one my “resolutions” was to try to get pregnant this year. And, losing 30 lb would put me just under my pre-pregnancy weight. So it’s a win-win situation because getting pregnant at my current weight AND gaining another 50 lb would not be good. Ugh, I’m already not looking forward to being pregnant again, but I would like another baby sometime soonish.

So here I go. I need to be held accountable, so maybe I’ll have to find a community and tag along with some bloggers who track their weight loss. I don’t know if I’ll be brave enough to post the actual number on the scale, but I’ll at least find a way to post my gain/loss progress. And in the meantime, you all should judge me if/when I fall off the wagon. Positive reinforcement’s always good, too, I s’pose.

  1. I think you look fabulous, but I support you on your quest ;-D, especially with such an awesome reward! I lost 25 pounds a few years ago and it took more exercise and eating right than I seem to be willing to do right now (ergh), but am trying to get close to that lifestyle again. Always good to have people to hold you accountable...definitely why I tweet "off to the gym" etc...once it's out there, I HAVE to do it or I'd be a big liar (or so I tell myself). Best of luck!

  2. Good luck! It may be easier to get pregnant once you lose the weight. I've heard of doctors telling people that it'll help. So it'll help in 2 ways! If you lived closer, I'd be your gym buddy, but I don't think either of us wants to drive 45 minutes to work out. I can't get myself to work out when the gym is 5 minutes away, ha!

    1. Thanks Linds! I know right? I have a fitness center at work just one floor down, and I still can't get myself to work out. Shameful, I know.

  3. You can do it Bek! Lindsey is totally right about it being easier to get pregnant with weight loss, it took 8 months with Aubrey this time around after losing nearly 30 pounds on WW it took one try. However I am not liking this pregnancy as much as I liked it with Aubrey, getting very close to the only 17 pounds I gained with Aubrey and just over halfway done.

So while losing weight makes it easier to get that baby in there, I think that you may gain more quickly at a healthier weight at least that is what I am telling myself. In any case good luck.

    1. Nahhh you're fine. You're supposed to gain like 30 lb during pregnancy anyway, right?

    2. Yes, I was told between 25-30 was what I should gain. However since I want to avoid having another c-section to try and keep it less then the 17 I gained with Aubrey. I do not think that is going to make much of a difference in the big baby department for me though. This baby is already measuring slightly bigger then normal (14 oz) at 1 pound already.

  4. You can do it! I am on Weight Watchers myself right now. I am trying but it is hard hard hard. I'd like to lose 30 lbs too. We can do it!

  5. Oooooh I'm so excited for you!!!! I'm gonna bite my tongue about the misconception that if you're thinner it's easier to conceive...you know what I'm talkin about.

    1. I didn't mean that all thin people have an easy time conceiving. I know that's not true at all. I just know that being overweight can make it more challenging and people have had an easier time if they go from being overweight to less overweight.

    2. I agree with Lindsey. However it can also be harder for someone who is underweight to conceive as well not just overweight.

    3. All true, and sometimes there is no explanation for why people have trouble conceiving.

  7. I love your goal! Yay for more kiddos!!! I'm always trying to shed a few pounds and recently started tracking my eating and exercising on my fitness pal. You can log on the web or the free iPhone app. I love that they have almost every food imaginable in their database so I can be more mindful of calories in/out.

    1. I recommend MyFitnessPal.com too. Anymore I really just use it for tracking my weight and measurements so I don't lose them, and so I know if I start gaining weight.
